The Egg Stage

Orange Tip eggs are readily visible to the naked eye and can be found on Garlic Mustard (Jack-by-the-Hedge), Lady's Smock (Cuckoo Flower) and less commonly on Honesty, Hedge Mustard & Sweet Rocket. When first laid the eggs are white but turn orange after a day or so. (Note white eggs on the leaves of these plants will usually belong to the Green-veined White.) The caterpillars hatch out during May and can be found feeding on the seed pods through into June.
